MTCYR Catholic Residential Therapeutic Boarding School Summer Program

MTCYR Catholic Residential Therapeutic Boarding School Summer Program

At MTCYR, the leading troubled teen program, we strive for excellence in education, attitude, responsible work ethic, and service. We hope to instill into the youth a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves so that they realize a life of giving rather than taking will ultimately make them complete. It is our goal to teach respect for the dignity of the person and a responsibility toward others.

MTCYR is a facility for the whole person. At MTCYR, we believe that life is sacred and thus what we put into or take away from our mind, heart, and body must be justified.

If you are concerned about your sons education it is important to know that at MTC Youth Ranch our academic program continues throughout the summer and runs year round.

As the troubled teen enters our initial summer program he is introduced to a way of living that resembles the farm lifestyle. They live in a log house and cook their food in a log kitchen. They also take care of ranch animals including calves, chickens, dogs and cats. They learn how to irrigate crops, and assist in the harvest of hay and corn. The boys will also learn things about range management, natural spring development, and living the “simple” way of life. During these lifestyle changes the horse plays an important role in therapy.

Several staff members here at MTCYR are trained in equine therapy. The horse is used to determine and assist the boys in recognizing their problems and how to deal with those problems. As a boy develops a relationship with his new environment and becomes more knowledgeable and responsible, he will be allowed to experience more of the daily chores and events that make ranch life a maturing and challenging life experience.

The troubled teens in MTCYR Summer Program may be part of a three day cattle drive, and may expereince sleeping out under the night skies at times and learning from some of the best trail bosses in the business. This includes opportunities to learn about Natural Horsemanship, and Study aspects of range management which entails cattle management around the natural forest services environmental considerations.

The maintaining and building of improvements such as water lines, fences, etc., are an essential part of the summer cow-camp experience. MTCYR offers summer programs to young men ages 12-17 during the months of May till September (or when school starts). This program can be individualized to the specific needs of your troubled teen.

A Life Changing Experience for struggling teens, parents and the entire family.

Please note: Our Summer program is located on a remote rural ranch in back to basics, frontier style buildings without any frills. If you are looking for luxurious accommodations for your son in a resort like setting this is not the place to send him!

If you want your son to appreciate and not take for granted what has been provided for him by you, then our Ranch is the place to help him grow in appreciation and thanksgiving for all that he has received in his life. Young men that engage in our program leave here with a deeper respect for authority, self-discipline, and a new work ethic that will help them be successful in graduating from high school, holding down a job or going on to college.
